Jottings

It’s my belief that most human beings long for connection, desire to love and be loved and to make a positive difference while on the planet. As a screenwriter, novelist, essayist and cook, my newsletter explores the art and craft of various forms of writing and other self-expression.

As a child and grandchild of Holocaust Survivors, I was raised in the refugee Jewish community of European Jews who settled in Sydney Australia post World War II, before migrating to the United States as a teen.

After graduating from UCLA, I went to work in magazine publishing (Petersen Publishing Company up on Sunset Blvd in West Hollywood). I have worked as an editor, researcher and writer of both fiction and non-fiction. I pivoted into studying chiropractic medicine and became a Doctor of Chiropractic who practiced in Century City and traveled throughout North America and England, teaching post-doctoral courses to DCs internationally.

Most recently I have returned to my primary passion of writing. In the past few years I have focused on writing TV pilots, feature film scripts and most recently my first novel. My training includes courses at UCLA Screenwriting, Script Anatomy, Joan Scheckel, Sundance Collab, Cinestory, Austin Film Festival Writer Retreats and more. I am constantly learning and growing as a writer.

As a Jew and a queer woman, I have a deeply personal understanding of the pressures to conform, and the internal and external conflicts of wanting to be authentic and have integrity, while still being accepted by the broader community. My writing’s thematic through line explores characters who seek to be themselves, while struggling with broader social pressures to conform.

Thanks for dropping in and checking me out.
